Never before has it been so essential for the industry to be given the boost of higher stakes and prizes. We simply cannot compete in the current marketplace against the myriad of other types of gaming on offer. And it is not just the AWP industry that is suffering - the knock-on effect is hitting all types of machines as operators and site owners have less budget to invest. UK pubs are closing at a rate of five a week, according to the papers. We have known for years how valuable machine revenue is to pubs - let's just hope the government also makes the connection. What kind of country will the UK become if we lose our pubs as well as our post offices and are condemned to run our social lives as well as our shopping via the internet or huge, out-of-town complexes?
