In light of the uncertain economic conditions, the 2008 AMOA Expo at the Las Vegas Convention Center pleased most attendees. Figures indicated that buyer numbers decreased to 1,700 from 1,880 in 2007. Total attendance spiked to just over 3,000, which compares with a number just under 4,000 at last year's show.
The International Association for the Leisure and Entertainment Industry (IALEI) recorded a total Fun Expo attendance of 1,155, an increase of 150 over 2007. Eighty-three exhibitors came to the show to display their latest products in 129 booths. The show floor included 13 new exhibitors. There were 890 buyers, comprised of operators, developers, designers or architects.
Despite rumors, AMOA officials acknowledged that no solid agreement has been reached with the American Amusement Machine Association (AAMA). The two groups are in discussions about combining the AMOA show with the spring AAMA trade show. So, as of now, both shows will continue as planned into 2009.
Celebrating AMOA's 60th years, the trade show floor mood was one of attendee enthusiasm. Most people believed the new equipment, quality of visitor traffic and excitement both on and off the exhibit floor brought energy to the expo. Numerous seminars attracted dozens of registrants. The two most attended workshops discussed website development and redemption.
