?34bn: this is the total amount of revenue from the gaming sector for the first nine months of 2008, equal to a rise of about 11% over last year. Should growth continue at this pace the annual revenue could reach ?47bn by the end of 2008.
NewSlot machines are once again ahead of the rest, with revenues of over ?15.8bn, a rise of 15.1% against ?13.8bn in 2007. Scratch cards are in second place, with revenues of ?6.8bn (15.7% above the ?5.9bn figure in 2007). Sport betting comes third, but worthy of a greater honour because of the higher rate of growth. This sector has recorded an increase of 54.7%, thanks to revenues of ?2.7bn against ?1.7bn during the same period last year.
These three games on their own represent 74% of the entire sector revenues, having netted ?25.3bn.
More or less unchanged or if anything in a slow decline are the revenues from SuperEnalotto, netting ?1.46bn in the first 9 months of the year, a reduction of 1.4% against ?1.48bn in 2007. Lotto is in fourth place, with revenues of ?4.4bn, while Bingo has recorded a decline of 6.5% with revenues close to ?1.2bn. On the other hand, horse betting is sharply down (-9.1% with revenues of ?1.8bn) and football pools show an even more significant drop (Totocalcio, Totogol, Il9 and Big Match). These games have netted only ?121m in total, a fall of 28.4%. Source: JAMMA
