The anniversary comes at a time when the economic environment for the gaming industry in Spain is not that optimistic, "but I'm sure everyone will get through it", said Manuel Lao. And to support this he outlined the company's current plans, as well as the short to medium term projects and not just those of Cirsa, but also the Nortia business holding, which has ambitious plans for Romania, Hungary, Argentina, Colombia and Panama, among others. The vice president of Cirsa, Manuel Lao Gorina, reviewed the main activities in the various branches of the company with special emphasis on the Industrial Division and the newly formed Sports Betting stressing that during the first half of this year, Cirsa has achieved sales of 862 million euros and an operating profit (EBITDA) of 96 million euros, 22% higher than in the first half of 2007. These results are mainly the result of the machine changes carried out by the Group's operations in the domestic market, the increase in the games on offer in the amusement arcades, and also the installation of multiplayer roulette and electronic bingo machines. He also cited the general growth in revenues and improvements in the management of the casinos in Latin America and the optimisation of space in the bingo halls with the introduction of new products. As regards the recent launch of the sports betting business, the company within the group that is responsible for running it, Sportium, expects to end the year with 70 outlets operating in the Madrid region.
