In collaboration with the Institute of Leisure Studies at the University of Deusto, a seminar took place in Bilbao (Basque Country) entitled "Basque Society and Sports Betting". This seminar, focussing on the study of the emerging sports betting business, went into an in-depth analysis, both from an economic and a social perspective, with emphasis on what is happening in the Basque and Madrid areas, both of which are pioneering autonomous regions in this aspect of gaming.

The Director of Gaming and Entertainment from the Basque Regional Government's Office of the Interior, Don Aitor Uriarte Unzalu, opened the seminar and emphasised "the importance of the Government's paper in the field of gaming: on the one hand, as the driver and coordinator of this activity, and on the other, as the guarantor for consumers and users". For his part, Don José Ignacio Cases Méndez, Vice-president of the CODERE Foundation, talked about "the determined desire of the CODERE Foundation to continue to bring the gaming sector closer to various public audiences through an interdisciplinary approach, emphasising the commitment to responsible gaming, which boils down to corporate social responsibility in this activity". Specialists in the fields of sociology, law, finance and gaming gave their points of view and contributed to the debate on the new sports betting business. In addition, the days served to cover, among other subjects, leisure in society today, the problems with gaming and the legal aspects of on-line gaming. The CODERE Foundation is a charitable organisation created with the aim of structuring and coordinating those activities oriented towards the study, analysis, evaluation, development of standards and evolution of the gaming industry.
