We are clearly not short of surprises the day after the approval of the Bill on gaming by the Lower House of Parliament. Among these is the decision by the Government to accept a motion tabled by Alessandro Montagnoli, Member of Parliament for the Lega Nord, committing the Government to progressively limit the number of installed machines, whether with prizes or simply for amusement (thereby including video games) within clubs and association premises, with the ultimate goal being to forbid their installation.
The following is the text in full of the 'Montagnoli' motion as accepted by Government: This House, having examined the restrictive measure being proposed; having considered the broad spread of slot machines, not only in commercial business premises, but also in bingo halls and in private clubs and association premises; having assessed the attraction of these games for a wide range of the population, in particular the young and more susceptible people; having assessed the social and economic risks that could be suffered by families through the addiction to gaming in all its forms, commits the Government to take measures to progressively limit the installation of gaming machines referred to in Commas 6 and 7 of Art. 110 of the Royal Decree dated 18 June 1931, no. 773, within the premises of associations and private clubs, with the ultimate goal of forbidding their installation.
