This year the ATEI, regarded by so many as the world's best coin-operated amusement equipment exhibition, will be joined in London on January 27,28 and 29 by a newcomer; the InterGame Show, organised by the publishers of the InterGame and associated magazines.
It would be folly for anybody to imagine the new show held in the Ibis Hotel, a stone's throw from the ATEI, will be a serious rival this year to the latter. What it is intended to do is to provide an opportunity for those who used to attend the major exhibition but who have found the cost of doing so became prohibitive in recent years with increases in hotel and transport charges as well as, last year, a reduced footfall in parts of the exhibition, to show their wares at a cheaper cost.
The big exhibition might gain from the numbers who attend the smaller show which might itself gain from its close proximity to the ATEI. Some pool table manufacturers, whose businesses have been the victims of the problems that have beset the pub industry, have decided to support the InterGame Show with the result that Excel Leisure, Hazelgrove Superleague and Heywood Pool and Snooker will be among the exhibitors. Sam Leisure, however, will remain faithful to the ATEI because, as Liam Barrett put it, the company is one that has international status and needs to be seen as such.
My best wishes for their endeavours go the the organisers of both exhibitions. To all exhibitors and not just those involved in pool I wish all the best for a well attended and fruitful three days regradless of which show they are at.
