As this issue of Euroslot was going to press we learned that two of the top English pool table manufacturers had merged on January 9 to form one company in an effort to increase the sale of their pool tables and to help overcome the current problems from which the pool table manufacturing industry is suffering.
In a joint statement, Excel Leisure, of Ashton under Lyne, and Simply Pool, of Oldham, said they had agreed to combine their expertise as makers of high quality pool tables in order to gain a greater share of the market during the present economic problems and difficult times.
The new company will be known as Simply Pool Ltd. Paul Adams, who has been appointed the Managing Director, said, "Both of our companies target the same type of customers and mirror each other with the quality tables and accessories we produce. I look forward to working together with the Excel Leisure people and supplying customers with the high quality services and products they need."
Excel Leisure's Managing Director, Stan McKenna, said: "We have known the directors of Simply Pool for many years. In fact we all worked together at a previous company and that will make the present integration much smoother. All of us are delighted to confirm the continuity of first class products to all our customers." He added that the merger would strengthen both the participating companies.
There would be a period of rationalisation which would involve relocationof which full details would soon be available, he said.
McKenna will become responsible for looking after the company's commercial interests with Bob Underhill heading the sales department.
