The breakaway show from London's ATEI, IGX, was hailed as a great success by its exhibitors when it closed its doors on Thursday evening, January 29.
Thirty exhibitors had supported the ‘alternative show,' held at the Ibis Hotel, 200 metres from Earls Court. An intensive programme of marketing, plenty of directional signs and even the popular cycle ‘rickshaws' festooned with IGX advertising and giving free rides to the show, brought 2,000 visitors through the doors.
After the event, one of the InterGame principals, David Snook, said: "We are not going to play those show organisers' silly mind games over numbers. We had 2,000 genuine buyers through the doors, nearly half of them on the second day. Our exhibitors tell us that they were extremely high quality, there were no ‘tyre kickers' and that nearly all of them did as much business - sometimes more - than they did at Earls Court, and at a fraction of the cost."
This was backed by Chris Black from Sound Leisure, the major jukebox manufacturer, who said: "We had a fabulous show. The organisation was superb and we enjoyed levels of business as good as or better than at Earls Court." He was echoed by Hazelgrove Superleague's Eric Lewis: "I cannot fault the organisation - it was a breath of fresh air. And the quality of visitors was very high. I would re-book for next year now."
Visitors from over 30 countries came through the Ibis doors during the three days of the show to see exhibits from six countries.
One of the main instigators of the event, Harry Levy, who had a large stand for his amusement and redemption products, said: "I am very glad that we did this. It was an excellent show." IGX has first option on the ballroom of the Ibis Hotel for the corresponding dates in 2010. According to InterGame's business manager, Peter Knott, the IGX already has bookings for 2010.
