Madrid will be welcoming the Leaders of Online Gaming to discuss its imminent regulation. It seems that Spain is getting ever closer to regulating gaming in casinos and online betting at state level. At the next conference on "Online Gaming in Spain", which is planned to take place in March at the Intercontinental Hotel in Madrid, the Technical General Secretary of the Department of the Interior (National Commission for Gaming), Mª Ángeles González, will offer an exclusive insight into the progress of the regulatory plans and what the resulting scenario might be.
This awaited update on the regulations will provide a strategic overview of the market for Spanish operators, and those international operators who are considering entering this lucrative sector, at a time of increased political interest in the regulation of on-line gaming. The main players are being called upon to debate on the forthcoming changes in the sector and to offer practical and tangible solutions on what promises to be one of the last opportunities to meet before the new legislation is approved and which, in a study carried out, shows that this unregulated market generated profits of up to 200 million Euros last year.
Among the most interesting topics at this Congress will be the debate led by Fernando Ors from Codere, Alberto Eljarrat from Sportium and Sacha Michaud from Betfair Spain on whether Spain is ready for regulated Online Gaming, as well as more specific objectives such as how to overcome some of the principal legal challenges that are expected in the new legislation by Mr. Artemi Rallo, Director General of the Spanish Data Protection Agency. Also taking part will be regulators from other European jurisdictions - Mr. Wilsenach from Alderney, Mr. Borg from Malta, Mr. Himes from the "Remote Gambling Association" - sharing their international experience and their vision, taking into account similar changes that have taken place in other countries. All within the various debating groups moderated by Xavier Muñoz Bellvehí, Partner and Director of Legal Link and a specialist lawyer on the subject.
