85% of customers of casinos in Slovenia are Italians

They arrive in dribs and drabs, in their old cars or even on a Vespa. They enjoy free meals, TV, shows. The border area between Rabuiese and Fernetti, with the highest concentration of gaming houses in Europe, has almost become a private club for thousands of grey haired men from Trieste.

The Director of the Carnival Casino in Rabuiese, Bojan Umer, said: "We have between 11,000 and 13,000 visitors a month, 85% of whom are from Italy, and 70% from Trieste. With monthly winnings of around €2,200,000, losses for the average punter do not exceed €50". But if a pensioner goes to the Casino every day (and many do just that), it is easy to do all the sums.
