Leading gaming machine operator Gamestec teamed up with Punch Taverns to run a national Tetris tournament on Gamesnet 5 machines. The tournament took place throughout December across more than 400 Punch Taverns' sites, with top prize of £500 at stake.
Gamers had to beat the leading national score to win the competition. The tournament has proved to be a valuable asset in bringing in extra cash box takings during the Christmas period.
Paul Fox, Machine and Vending Manager from Punch Taverns said: "Running this tournament in our pubs has encouraged repeat plays on the gaming terminals, boosting cash-in-box profits for our retailers.
"We have found that if the licensee gets behind this kind of activity, actively involving customers and encouraging competition, tournaments can be a great point of interest within the pub environment. The tournaments are straightforward to run with results being collated remotely overnight, so the bar staff don't need to get involved in any administration."
David Corns Category Manager at Gamestec added: "We plan to work with Punch in the future to run more tournaments, featuring other popular games. We have found tournaments to be a great way of engaging with pub customers and increasing cash box takings. For me being able to offer gamers the chance to compete with other people all over the country is one of the best things to come out of the introduction of digital machines."
