German industry giant the Gauselmann Group concluded the 2005 financial year with a “noticeable increase in sales” of 2.8 per cent. Figures improved both at home and abroad. Significant increases have already been reported for the first half of 2006.
According to its own statements, the Gauselmann Group has again exceeded the high turnover level of the previous year in the 2005 fiscal period. Market opportunities have been resolutely pursued and positions in central areas of business considerably strengthened, according to the business report just published. The total turnover for the group has increased by 2.8 per cent from E669.7m in the 2004 financial year to E688.2mb in the 2005 commercial year. The total volume of business of the all companies of the Gauselmann Group has thus exceeded the billion Euro limit for the first time. In 2004, the volume totalled 987 million Euro in 2004, but in 2005, 1,004 million Euros was achieved.
Despite many political and legal uncertainties, the group extended its dominant position in the German market, the core market of the group.
This has particularly been achieved through the activities of adp Gauselmann GmbH, which has for many years been the mainstay of the German business of the group, and by the successful dealings of Merkur-Spielothek in the amusement arcade sector. Here the Gauselmann Group has been setting the trend in entertainment centres for decades.
Abroad, the group was able to compensate for its strategic withdrawal from Great Britain (Bell- Fruit Group) at the start of the year 2005.
The turnover proportion achieved here was around 39 per cent. The foreign service provision sector was particularly successful. In the entertainment centre sector (Merkur Casino), significant increases were achieved. In the East European markets, the company plans to continue growth while repositioning itself in the established player markets, such as Spain.
The Gauselmann Group has also drawn up plans to reposition itself in its the coimpetitive European cash-payout and entertainment game activities. Under the overall brand name of Merkur Gaming, the product portfolio will be further developed and considerably extended on a country-specific basis. The activities of Merkur Gaming and Merkur Casino will be grouped together under the joint brand of Merkur International.
