The Atzaria Group, comprising four Catalonian companies from the gaming sector, has launched a new portal for betting on the internet. The companies in the group are the MGA-New Park Group, the Conei Group, the Binelde Group and the Rodríguez Villar Group, and each of them holds 25 percent of the shares.
Atzaria is expected to invest between E4m and E5m in the first year of operating the portal. The website (www.10a1.com) is currently in test phase, although bets can already be made through it.
“For us, it is like an internal test that will enable us to see what we can improve before entering the fully operational stage,” explained Jaume Riera, director of MGA-New Park. “The official launch of the new portal will be done as soon as betting over the internet is legally regulated in Spain. The autonomous governments of Catalonia and Madrid are working on it.” Nevertheless, the law to regulate it in Catalonia will not be ready until the end of this year. The law will bring “legal consistency” to this activity. “The player will know where the registered office of the company is situated in case there are any problems, something that does not happen at the moment because some operators have their registered offices in Austria, their servers in Gibraltar, and operate from a third country,” said Riera. “Betandwin, Miapuesta and Betfair are some of the largest betting operators using the internet at the moment.” According to Riera, the delay in preparing this law is prejudicing the Spanish companies.
