Raffaele Palmieri, Sicon President and the man behind the demonstration outside the offices of the Amministrazione dei Monopoli di Stato in Rome, was keen to point out that: “We are not here to ask again to discuss a tax regulation or how to renew licences – something we could do directly with the executives of the AAMS. On the contrary, the reason for our presence in Rome is to express our protest against a government policy that has seen fit to pass a series of urgent measures that will significantly modify the sport and horse-betting sector, without setting any safeguard for the operators, who for many years have invested in the development of a sector that has regularly contributed millions of euros to the Treasury.”
