Vewu, the Association of European Businessmen in the Betting Sector, has strongly criticised the draft of a new German national lottery treaty.
According to the association, if this draft treaty comes into force, it will have negative consequences for all stake- holders in the sector. Vewu is calling for liberalisation of the sector, which it claims would be beneficial to everyone. If all the Länder agree to this treaty, advertisement of every form of gambling would be forbidden on the internet and on TV.
Vewu emphasised that this risks significant loss of earnings, estimated at around 50-60 per cent, for the Länder. If adopted, the draft lottery treaty is expected to come into force on January 1, 2008.
