Namco has announced details of its UK business restructuring, which will take effect from January 1, 2007. The current Namco Europe Limited will have a name change to Namco Holdings UK Limited, and in future this will operate as a holding company.
The coin-operated distribution business and the web and mobile-content business will be incorporated in new firms, respectively trading as Namco Europe Limited and Namco Bandai Networks Europe Limited. Namco Operations Europe Limited (the location-amusement business) is unaffected by the changes.
In line with the restructuring there will be a number of new appointments. John McKenzie (pictured), currently sales and commercial director at Namco Europe Limited, will be appointed Managing Director of the newly formed Namco Europe Limited, with Masaji Okubo becoming Managing Director of Namco Bandai Networks Europe Limited. Mike Nevin will continue as Managing Director of Namco Operations Europe Limited and also Namco Holdings UK Limited. Ray Bradley will be group finance director.
Both Brent Sales (the coin-op distribution arm for the UK and Ireland), and Brent Electronic (which distributes spares, components and ancillary products) will continue to operate within the remit of the newly constituted Namco Europe Limited.
Commenting on the restructuring and appointments, Nevin said that due to the growth in the UK business, it was time that each operation had a dedicated Managing Director to take that business forward to the next level. He added that the decision to split the business units was also driven by the need to align each business with corporate structural developments in Japan.
Nevin welcomed the appointment of McKenzie as Managing Director of the distribution business: “John has a great record in the company, having made the successful transition from finance director to sales and commercial director,” he said. “Over the past couple of years, he has established Namco Europe Limited at the forefront of the game distribution business and his appointment is a fitting reward for the ability he has shown.”
McKenzie added: “I’m naturally delighted to be given the opportunity to lead Namco Europe’s coin-op distribution into the next stage of its development. I’m also very fortunate to take the helm of a business in such good shape, which is testimony to Mike’s leadership skills over his 12-year tenure.”
