The Czech government is now looking into the proliferation of FOBTs in the industry. These have become popular because they are currently being operated under Chaper 50 of the Gaming Act, which does not declare prize limitations and allows greater freedom in siting machines.
“Czech politicians are now paying attention to the FOBT machines on the market. They would like to get these more under control. They are planning to put some limit on bets as well as to give local authorities the power not to allow operation of FOBTs where they did not allow the operation of AWP machines before,” said Martin Zych of distributor and operator Comax.
The situation is now being discussed in the upper chamber of the Czech parliament. And if the changes are passed by the Senate, the proposals will have to go to the lower chamber of the Czech parliament, which is most important for getting the changes implemented.
However, the situation remains unclear. There is still no proper government four months after elections in the Czech Republic and therefore the legislative process is very slow at the moment.
