World of Entertainment Turmoil
Published:  01 April, 2007

This year’s World of Entertainment show (WoE) in Prague has been thrown into turmoil following the decision of a number of key exhibitors not to attend the show. Novomatic’s EDP subsidiary, the clear market leader in gaming machines for street arcades and casinos and Synot, a major machine distributor that represents British firm JPM, the leading supplier of reel-based AWPs to the market have both pulled out of the show.

As Euroslot went to press is was still unclear as to whether other key Czech gaming concerns such as Apex and Jamp, were to exhibit at the show, with the organiser in last minute talks to try and secure their participation. Synot representatives stressed that the decision to pull out of the show was purely a business one and not motivated by any ill-feeling towards the show or its organisers. “The WoE takes place in April, right after one small sales window and two moths before a larger window in June,” explained David Mixa from the firm’s international relations department. “These windows are determined by the licence periods set by the government. The Czech operators tend to wait until the last moment to make their purchasing decisions and therefore sales at the WoE are not as strong as they could be.” Despite this explanation, Olga Vaclavek of show organiser Svet Zbavy is not entirely happy with the role played by Synot in the affair. “They have done a lot of damage to our show,” she claimed “We only found out in December that they would not be showing. The exhibition will definitely take place. We are working very hard and are still talking to other companies in attempt to get them back, as we believe they were not given the correct information in the first place.” Synot now plans to hold an in-house open day at its offices in Uherské Hradiste.
