The Catalonian regional government, the Generalitat, has approved two new decrees. The first means that third parties can market the lottery, which is currently run by the Generalitat itself, via the internet and mobile phones, and the second authorises a new method of playing electronic bingo.
The first decree approved yesterday makes it possible to extend the sales of the lottery run by the Generalitat “through the use of computer or telematic systems such as the internet or mobile phones”. This will have an effect on Lottería Trio, Loto Express, Super 10 and Supertoc, which can now be sold to players directly by the Entidad Autónoma de Juegos y Apuestas – the Independent Organisation for Gaming and Bets – or by “approved commercial operators and selling agents via their corresponding websites and in existing establishments”. In an official announcement, issued by the Communications Office of the Generalitat, it was stated that those intermediaries of a private nature will receive a commission that “cannot be greater than 5 per cent of the sales”.
In the second decree a regulation was approved for a new game called Binjocs, a new type of bingo that bingo halls will operate in an electronic form. To play this game, the player purchases an electronic card on a terminal. This contains a series of numbers, which the player must complete with two draws, one that is made in a continuous way and the other as a function of the demand from the players. The bets placed on this new game can be between a maximum of E1 and a minimum of E0.20.
