GTECH Corporation has won a five-year contract to supply a server-based gaming system with video terminals to Svenska Spel – the state-owned Swedish gaming and lotteries operator.
GTECH won the contract calls for 2,650 WinWave terminals, with game development and ongoing support, following a competitive tender. “Svenska Spel, one of the most innovative lotteries in the world, will be the first of our lottery customers to take delivery of our next-generation video central system,” said W. Bruce Turner, GTECH CEO. “The new system gives Svenska Spel the flexibility of traditional game configurations as well as server-based gaming. It also enables expanded functionality beyond the delivery of video game content, to include a browser to play the lottery’s online offerings, and the ability to deploy third-party content on the IVTs (interactive video terminals).”Svenska Spel will be able to download new games automatically to the terminals and to receive real-time information on which games are proving most popular with the players, in order to maximize revenue. Svenska Spel currently has 7,300 video terminals in operation in Sweden and hopes to replace over 5,000 of these during the life of the contract. Over half of these will be replaced with the new WinWave terminals featuring new gaming content.
