The BAPTO 2007 Finals, to be played from November 15 to 18 at Pontins Blackpool, will have a £13,300 prize fund, the largest in the association’s history. The money will be spread between a five-player team event featuring 128 teams plus 256 players men’s singles and 64 players ladies’ singles events.
Competitors at what could be one BAPTO’s best-attended finals will have 32 SAM Leisure Atlantic tables, covered with Hainsworth Match cloth, on which to show their skills. Both of these will bring professional equipment to what is a strictly amateur only competition.
Liam Barrett, BAPTO’s PRO, said the Atlantic tables ProActive cushion system and the fast Match cloth would provide the sort of perfect playing conditions that all serious players hoped for. BAPTO decided, said its chairman, Alan Boswell, after hearing feedback from players who attended last year’s finals at Pontins, Blackpool, to hold this year’s at the same venue. Improvements had been made to the format, he said, with each team that entered guaranteed to play at least 52 frames of pool; Entry to the team finals will be restricted to the first 128 teams to apply. Only genuine pub teams will be allowed to enter with urban players having to live within eight miles of their team venue. Further information is available from Rob Pearce on 07984 646699. Teams are invited to enter direct on registration forms that can be downloaded from www.wannaplaypool.com.bapto
