Since the Taichung County government opened up the registration of game locations based on the regulation of such facilities, there have been almost 200 arcades being approved up to now.
However, the steady growth of the game locations has aroused the attention of councillors within Taichung County and people in educational circles. They have urged the Taichung County government to supervise the game locations more strictly. Therefore, the superintendent held a public hearing of the draft of Taichung County Autonomous Regulation of the Placement of Game Locations. During the public hearing, the content of the draft was approved and will take effect by the Ministry of Economic Affairs after the related institutions have approveded it. The Taichung County Autonomous Regulation of the Placement of Game Locations contains seven ordinances. One of the most important, lists the specific regulations of the set-up of game locations. The facility must be located 50 metres away from a residential district and must face a road that is 12 metres wide. Ordinary game locations must be 200 metres away from schools and hospitals; restricted game locations must be 300 metres away from schools and hospitals.
