The Private Gaming Industry in Spain contributed more than Euros 1,703 million to the Spanish State in 2006. This amount comes from the taxes on gaming, duties and surcharges, and other taxable events related to each of the Private Gaming sub-sectors (casinos, bingo halls, amusement machines, and lotteries and raffles) in 2006.
The official data compiled from all the autonomous communities plus Ceuta and Melilla, whose competence corresponds to the Tax Authority, but excluding those for the administrative region of Valencia, which did not have the official figures available last month. Each region has its own legislation which, clearly, greatly complicates the collection of valid data for a market study covering the whole of the Spanish territory. The strong fall in takings from Bingo observed during the financial year in Catalonia still does not prevent that region from continuing to be the leader in terms of the amount of tax levied on Gaming; a position which is followed up by the Madrid Autonomous Region, where a marked decrease in the amount collected was also noted, estimated at almost 6 million euros compared to the same period of 2005. The data form part of a report compiled annually by a prestigious Spanish magazine.
