The Director General of the Department of Interior of the Principality of Asturias, Julian González, has recently held meetings with representatives of AERPA (Asociación de Empresas Recreativas) - the Association of Amusement Companies and ASEBI (Asociación de Empresas del Juego de Bingo) - the Association of Bingo Companies.
These two associations raised matters of general interest related to the modification and development of standards within the sector which would allow for an adjustment to be made to accommodate the new technologies within the business environment of today.
In answer to the demands from the sector, González reported on the Consultative Council’s deferment of a new Decree regulating amusement machines which must subsequently be approved by the Governing Council. He also emphasised the work of the Gaming Inspection Section which, amongst its most recent actions, has closed three illegal Bingo premises in which they had surprised more than a hundred people and in which there was an impressive degree of sophistication, such as extraction machines and public address systems. This gives an idea of the volume of business conducted on these clandestine premises.
The complex legislative environment and the strong fiscal pressure on gaming are placing all companies which act within the established order, at a great disadvantage when confronted with illegal competition from these types of premises.
