What is the company history? Custom Engineering spa was founded in 1992, with the mission to create mechatronic (mechanical/electronic) solutions especially designed to meet the demands of the growing printing peripheral market. After only 3 years of business, Custom had already become the reference for the domestic market (Italy) and started reaching out towards the European and international markets. The experience acquired in 16 years of designing of products on demand enabled us to acquire know-how in a variety of application sectors. The goal of today’s Custom is to supply complete solutions for the various vertical markets dealing with cash point and industrial automation, gaming terminals for betting and lotteries, ticketing and multimedia solutions.

What is the size of the company/number of employees? Custom has a staff of 152 people, 50% of whom are involved in development activities, R&D, design engineering, quality, certification, technical support and control, while the remaining 50% run the sales, administration and logistics departments. Production is managed and organised from the Headquarters through external partners (online portal): - sub-contractors in Italy and in India, all working in compliance with ISO 9002. -CPE SRL- Custom Production Europe (85% Custom share capital) is a company assigned to the production of base products for the OEM sector, printing mechanisms and printers, with offices in Romania. It has a staff of 35.

How did Custom first become involved in the gaming industry? Custom first became involved in the gaming industry through the supplying of printers and peripherals for the video game and lottery terminal sector. Around 15 per cent of our business is gaming related. What are your best-selling products for the gaming industry – and why? There are many, but the most profitable business is done with the XKUBE Scanner because thanks to the integration of printer and scanner in a single product equipped with SW for decoding the bet and sending the data to the host, an extremely rapid betting/lottery solution with the capacity to acquire all kinds of bets automatically (coupon) has been created.

What is your company philosophy? . “Success is simple”. Meaning that it is the simple objects and concepts that are quick and easy to employ that improve our lives. Custom has done its utmost, right from the outset, to supply intelligent, user friendly products that are streaks ahead of the rest for their ease of use, while offering state-of-the-art performance. And to achieve this, ever since the company was founded, maximum priority has always been given to investments in research and development of technologies, products and solutions. All the technological processes, from electronic and mechanical design engineering, to firmware, to drivers and the development of utilities and solutions, are carried out internally to the company. User-friendliness, rapidity in accessing information and real, tangible results: these are the distinguishing features of the new products.

How do you plan to expand your company’s presence in the gaming sector? This year System Gaming SPA was founded, for the purpose of focusing and developing the activities of Custom in the Gaming, Lotteries and Betting sectors. System Gaming ( 80% Custom Engineering SpA) aims, first and foremost, to provide sector operators with complete solutions, ranging from the supplying of the technological infrastructures (Hardware and Software solutions) to the relative technical assistance (both in the factory and in the field) through to advice on application- and system-related issues.

Where do you see the company in 10 years’ time? Thanks to continuous investments in R&D, we have witnessed a ten-fold increase in our turnover in the last ten years, from 6.4 Million Euro in 1998 to a forecast 62 Million Euro in 2008! We are well aware that we cannot continue at this rate, but our real satisfaction lies in achieving the visibility of Custom products and of the Custom brand throughout the world.
