Japan to grant casino licenses
Published: 01 October, 2006
The strong growth of the emerging Asian market has made it a target for most casino operators, but of particular interest has been Japan.
The second-largest global economy has continued to flourish and carries enormous potential for the sector. To further stimulate the country’s internal market and fuel its burgeoning tourist industry, the Japanese authorities plan to issue two or three casino licences before 2010, which is also an attempt to emulate Singapore’s casino development. Las Vegas Sand, Harrah’s Entertainment and similar consortiums intend to be tenders in order to grasp the first opportunities in Japan.
