The Gamexpo show in Budapest moved to a new location this year, still attracting product from some of the biggest names in coin-op and exhibitors from all corners of Europe

Gamexpo 2006 took place in the brand-new Syma Sport and Event Centre in Budapest, Hungary, from September 12-14. The hall was well received by exhibitors and proved to be a suitable venue for the future.

Although the Hungarian market is widely known to be quite small, beside Hungarian manufacturers, many international companies within the industry came to demonstrate their products or were represented by Hungarian distributors. The show attracted exhibitors from Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovenia and the UK.

The main exhibitors were Novomatic, Suzo International, EAC, Ardeco, EuroPlay Trade, Alfastreet, Casino Technology, JVH, Rabbit Gaming, Polimatic, Flipper-Rex, Barcrest, Aisworth and JCM, which was represented by Ardeco International, Photo Play by Errel and Spiller, Merkur Gaming by SHS Union, TAB-Austria by Game Time Bt., Williams Gaming International, Eurotek Designs and Xtreme Games products by Kegyi-Trade, Innovative Technology, Comestro Group, Baton Lock and Starpoint products by MK-4S Bt., Garlando table football by Modernova, Apex, Bell-Fruit Games products by Novogame, Geco Games, Dalla Pria, VTI, Hantarex, GamesMan, EDUE, Mazooma, QPS, Univers Group, WH by Playsystem, and Game Profil, which deals with Global Games and Trust Leisure products.

This year, many new vending machines were exhibited by the Italian Smile, Special Game and the German Sial companies, and a racing machine was shown by Golden Bet. Casino furniture and catering machines were also among the product ranges.

There were 45 stands, the same number as last year, but many exhibitors displayed their products in co-operation with others. Most of the stands were customised, colourful and uniquely designed. As usual, Ardeco had the largest display, comprising 280 square metres. Many exhibitors held their own stand shows, catered for their visitors and ensured that nobody left thirsty.

“Thanks to exhibitors and the excellent parameters of the new hall, we could provide a cosy and friendly atmosphere, just like it was in previous years,” said Sandor Barna, organiser and director of the Avex Team. “It is worth mentioning that Novomatic, who has been our regular exhibitor for many years, expressed its satisfaction and approved of our service in 2006. We can state that in proportion to the small capacity of this market, the latest gaming law and restrictions, attendance did not fall behind compared to last year, especially on the second day – the day of panel discussion.”

Barna added: “Visitors entered by using coupons, tickets, invitation cards and many of them registered online or on the premises to get in. The larger area made it possible to leave bigger walking paths among stands, so that visitors could move around more comfortably. For the entertainment of exhibitors and visitors, there were performances by mandolin and guitar musicians and of pantomime artists during the three days. On the whole, I can say that exhibitors were satisfied with the exhibition and 80 percent of them have already booked their space for next year.”

According to the latest legislation, gambling machines become electric and electronic waste after five years in the Hungarian market and operators must change them to new ones. The deadline for these changes is 2007, so organisers will accept a much larger range of new products introduced by manufacturers next year.
