Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), a Japanese governmental organization, published last month the 2008-2009 Content Market Status in the North America Market. The white paper announced a series of market statistics, which included that the output of Japanese comics and cartoon products reached US$2.829 billion (280 billion Japanese yen) in the market of North America for 2007.
According to the white paper, the output of Japanese comics and cartoon products in North American market reached the highest in 2003 with US$4.84 billion but experienced a decline of more than 40% in 2007. Among the US$2.829 billion output of Japanese comics and carton products from North America in 2007, cartoon products accounted for US$2.512 billion while DVD products US$315 million. The output created from cartoon products went up to US$2.512 billion from the US$2.41 billion in 2006. The output from Japanese anime audio and video tapes and DVDs reached its peak in 2002 with the figure of US$415 million.
