Total tax revenues for the period January to December 2008, before one-off payments, were € 422,297m (+1.1% against 2007): € 12,287m (+6.0%) from activities connected with gaming (indirect taxes).
Tax receipts relating to gaming (including various taxes classified both as direct and indirect taxes), totalled €12.817m (+ €730m, equal to 6.0%), with a reduction mainly due to extraordinary tax receipts deriving from the granting of licensing rights to run games in public (laws D.L. 223/2006, art. 38) netted during January 2007. Among the tax receipts relating to gaming, takings from Lotto were € 6,732m (+ €554m, a rise of 9.0%), those from instant lotteries were €1,638m (+ €129m, a rise of 8.5%) and those from gaming machines and equipment were €2,419m (+ €259m, a rise of 12.0%).
Indirect taxes. Revenues from indirect taxes were €191,754m (- €2,281m, a reduction of 1.2%), representing 45.1% of the total yearly revenue. Altogether tax revenues relating to gaming have been €11,790m (- €492m, a reduction of 4.0%).
In 2008, the tax on performances of shows and the tax on gambling houses have guaranteed revenues of €71m, an increase of 6% over the previous year.
