Rock in a box
Published:  16 June, 2009

Sound Leisure and Soundnet have introduced a world first for pay-to-play music - a jukebox dedicated completely to Rock music.

The Rock Box is aimed to fill a gap in the market that has been created by the Digital Jukebox revolution. Until now digital music providers have concentrated on the Mass market of pop based music, leaving many venues unable to upgrade to the benefits that the digital technology can offer. Branded simply as the  "Rock box" The machine contains 10,000 of the biggest, greatest Rock tracks. These have been painstakingly handpicked from the many genres of Rock music over the decades and include Metal, Indie, Punk, Alternative and Classic Rock songs.

"We wanted to design a digital audio jukebox for use in "Rock" or "Alternative" pubs and bars," says Sound Leisure's Chris Black. "These venues are crying out for a dedicated box, they can be anything from real ale, biker pubs to independent inner city bars or student venues, but they all have one thing in common. Their clientele love their Rock music and they spend serious money to hear it."

"With Rock Box you are telling these customers that you take their music seriously," adds James Luck from Soundnet. "We will update it with 100 new Rock and Alternative tracks each month. This will include all the latest hits, plus exclusive pre-release and classic album tracks."

Rock Box is available now and interested customers can arrange a demo right away.

"We know that Rock sites take more money than average and also that the perfect mix of music is essential," says Lee Taylor, head of music profiling at Soundnet. "So if our 10,000 track library does not have the specialist tracks needed by your customer, we will supply up to 100 songs chosen by the site for free. Whatever the venue requests - however obscure - we will source at no extra cost."

"We are really proud of this product - it was designed by serious music lovers for serious music lovers," says Soundnet's Simon Davis. "We are sure that most operators have got a site that would be ideal for the Rock Box. They should ask themselves whether they are maximising the possible revenue that a product like this could bring?"
