Sony Japan announced on June 29th that it will establish a digital content cooperative R&D center in Taiwan and will cooperate with Taiwanese companies to develop 20 console games within three years.
It is predicted to generate at least NT$1.8 billion in turnover. Taiwan's XPEC Entertainment, InterServ, YECK Entertainment, Soga Interactive, TATUNG InfoComm and Far Eastern Group all expressed interests in joining this programme.
According to the study of Institute for Information Industry (III), the digital game possibilities are tremendous. The overall output value of online games, PC games and console games is expected to reach US$48 billion (NT$1.5 trillion) in 2011 and 60% will be coming from the console game sector such as PS3, PSP, Xbox and Wii.
