Spectators at the P1 Powerboat World Championship held in Istanbul had a unique opportunity to get closer to the high-speed action of offshore racing than they might have expected.
An X2 simulator in custom P1 Powerboat graphics sat in the race village with two custom rides on it. Each ride was created from footage captured by onboard cameras mounted on the powerboats. Spectators were paying to ride the simulator and experience what it's like sitting in the pilot's seat of a 120mph powerboat. Meanwhile the actual powerboats raced along the Bosphorus river, which was closed for the first time in history. This is the first time the custom simulator has been used at a race event, previously it was in Dubai for the International Boat Show.
Following the event in Istanbul, the simulator went on tour with the Grand Prix event and was part of the race village in Italy. Now the simulator is on its way to Sweden for the second last race of the season in Gothenburg.
