Face Bank, the surreal Japanese coin-munching piggy bank that’s being marketed to the European amusements and retail sectors by Brent Electronic, has a new admirer in the form of television broadcaster Tim Lovejoy.
The stylish former Soccer AM front man, who now presents ‘Something for the weekend?’ on BBC 2, gave the thumbs up to the weird but likeable Face Bank when it featured in the show’s gadget section. Lovejoy, famous for his ability to pick out new trends, is amongst Face Bank’s growing army of admirers. Since its official European launch by Brent Electronic in January 2009, sales, which have been to both the amusements sector as merchandising and redemption prizes and to retail outlets as the latest must have gadgets, are fast approaching 10,000, a figure which Sales Manager Steve Short described as highly encouraging. Explaining the success of Face Bank, he said: “Players, particularly younger players, are now extremely aware and want to win products that either carry a label or that break the mould. The fact that Face Bank looks different, with its elastically simulated face which devours coins with a motorised munch, has made it a cult ‘must have’ product with literally millions of viewings on YouTube.”
