The group chaired by Manuel Lao appointed a new director just a few months ago in order to give a new impulse to its bingo and amusement arcade business in Spain. Only nine months after his appointment, Albert Puyol, the former managing director of the fashion company Loewe, has left the gaming and leisure Group formed by the conglomerate of Cirsa companies.
The Catalan holding of the Lao family appointed Puyol last March as Director General for amusement arcades in Spain, a new division resulting from the merger of the bingo area with that of the amusement arcades in the Spanish market. In this regard, Cirsa is facing a fall in takings from bingo, which, in 2008, saw a reduction of 6.8% in Spain. In the last few months, Cirsa has reduced its network of bingo premises in Spain from 58 halls to the present 44. In addition, the company has 120 arcades in the national market. Now, Manel Estany is the new Director General for amusement arcades in Spain.
The replacement for Puyol, who has left his previous company for “personal reasons“, is 47 years old and will report directly to the Group’s Director General, Joaquim Agut. The new director at Cirsa is a Business Studies graduate and has an MBA from the Esade Business School. Estany brings many years of experience in the mass market sectors. He was the Marketing Director for Moët Hennessy in Spain and for La Sirena, a company where he later became Managing Director. Before taking up his appointment with Cirsa, Estany was a partner in the Aplicca Identity Solutions company. Cirsa Gaming Corporation is the largest Spanish gaming and leisure multinational, and one of the principal world-wide operators in the sector. The group which has its head office in Terrassa (Barcelona) invoiced 1,220 million euros in the first nine months of 2009, with an operating profit of 157 million, 5% more than in the same period of 2008.
