The Ministry of Culture of China has warned that, “as of April 30, 2010, all amusement and entertainment venues are not allowed to operate games and amusement machines that are not listed in the guiding directory of machine models for market access issued by culture administrative departments.” Understandably, this has caused the industry some concern.
The game and amusement machine content inspection expert committee originally planned to start the next inspection soon, but the inspection work has been temporarily stopped due to recent personnel changes in the Ministry of Culture. In fact, it seems likely that the date prescribed by the new policy, April 30, 2010, is very likely to be postponed, by maybe one to two years.
At the board meeting of the Guangzhou Panyu Animation & Game Association (GAGA) held on December 10, 2009, Su Ben-li, Honor Chairman of GAGA and Wahlap President, revealed the latest developments on the recently disputed new policy.
On the same day, Secretary Zhu Ke-ming concisely introduced the association’s new work plans for 2010 and each item of work content aimed to create better operating environment and higher commercial value for enterprises.
Market Division Chief Zhu Ke-ming brought three valuable pieces of news:
The Guangzhou Municipal Culture Press and Publication Bureau will actively and thoroughly implement the notice recently issued by the Department of Culture Markets, Ministry of Culture of China regarding urging game and amusement venues in the region to complete game replacement by April 30, 2010;
In 2010 the association will plead the Department of Culture Markets for conducting the inspection of game and amusement machine content in Panyu
Before May 1, 2010, the Culture Press and Publication Bureau of Guangzhou City will temporarily stop the evaluation of game and amusement venues in Guangzhou City.
