As happens when one of the teams needs to gain time during a football match, it seems that those in charge at the Ministry of the Interior have used this well-known football tactic to pass the “hot potato” to the autonomous governments; namely the report presented by the Spanish bingo employer’s association against unfair competition from illegal games on the Internet. The Institutional Studies and Relations sub-section of this Ministry has forwarded the reports it has received to the autonomous governments using the argument that it is they who have exclusive competence when it comes to gaming.
The Ministry of the Interior at no time accepts any responsibility in eradicating the advertising campaigns for these games, since this is the job of the Ministry of Finance, and as regards the protection of minors, it maintains that this falls within the remit of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. Lastly, with regard to the defence of the consumers and users, it suggests that this should be referred to the Ministry of Health and Social Policy, giving to understand that the Ministry of the Interior has no greater power than the functions that are performed by the General Commissioner of the Judicial Police working on crimes related to gaming and bringing the perpetrators to justice. For its part CEJ, the Confederation of Bingo Companies, will continue to denounce these games and will not hesitate to bring a lawsuit should this prove necessary.
