The Colorado Lottery could soon operate video lottery terminals in the state's bars and restaurants, if lawmakers pass Senate Concurrent Resolution 10 by a two-thirds approval vote. Colorado voters would then have to authorize the machines in a referendum in November.
However, a deal could be struck by the bill’s sponsors to sacrifice this section, which would be good news for amusement operators in tavern locations. Used as a bargaining chip to win political support from the gambling industry, this measure could be killed to advocate the language that would confine gaming machine terminals to the State Fairgrounds in Pueblo.
Colorado has casinos in a few small cities. Tax revenues from VLTs would be used to fund college education and tuition programs.
