The Governing Council of the Autonomous Government of Andalucia has terminated the employment of Macarena Bazán as Director General of Entertainment and Gaming, scarcely two years after her appointment. Her last official act was the opening of the Andalucian Amusement Fair that took place in Málaga recently and the presentation of prizes. The new Director General of Entertainment and Gaming, Manuel Brenes Rivas (Cádiz, 1950), has a diploma in Teaching. Since June 2009 he has held the position of Director General for Employability and Professional Training in the Andalucian Department of Employment.
One of the first actions of Manuel Brenes has been to meet with the Presidents and General Secretaries of the Andalucian amusement machine and arcade associations. The new Director General will have to contend with a reduction of almost 9% in the income from gaming. The evolution in takings since the crisis exploded is clearly demonstrated: in 2007, before the first signs of what was then called a deceleration, takings grew by 5%; in 2008, in total effervescence, a 1.5% fall, and in the disastrous year of 2009, a fall of 9.2%. In other words, according to the data contained in the 2009 report on Private Gaming in Andalucia produced by the Interior Ministry, in the last three years takings have fallen from 2,691 to 2,409 million euros due to the large fall in takings in the casinos and the bingo halls, whose figures were 21% and 16% less respectively. The average spend per Andalucian was 76 euros, 9 euros less than in 2008.
