Gamestec's TabBoxx pull-tab lottery game is said to be attracting pub customers who wouldn't normally use gaming machines.
Offering prizes up to £1000, the system is now installed in more than 200 sites, some taking £80 a day. Part of the proceeds are being given to charity.
At Yates's in Barrow-in-Furness. manager Brian Clarke said: “The TabBoxx machine has been really popular with our customers. They like the fact that by playing they are supporting a good cause. We have a mixed customer base at our pub – although people of all ages have been playing, it seems particularly popular with the over-40s.
“TabBoxx is very different from an AWP or SWP and appeals to customers who would not usually play gaming machines. Customers love the fact it is simple and easy to use with a good chance of winning. We have had several £100 winners at the pub, which has really created a buzz around the machine. We have found that TabBoxx has had no effect on the level of takings from our AWPs or SWPs,” he added.
Danoptra Gaming Group-owned Gamestec claims to be Britain's biggest operator of gaming machines in pubs, with around 35,000 units. It has been working on the launch of the new lottery game with U.S. firms TabBoxx and International Gamco.
Twenty percent of ticket sales from May to July, totalling £27,000, has been donated to the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
