Taito has launched a digital distribution system for arcade games, allowing venue operators to download new titles rather than replacing hardware.
Developers Arc System Works, Cave and SNK Playmore are reported to have committed to putting their games on the download system. The first title available will be Arc's fighting game BlazBlue Continuum Shift II.
The Nesicaxlive system, launched at the Amusement Arcade Machine Show in the Japanese city of Chiba, will also permit venues to store multiple downloaded games on local servers – raising the possibility that eventually consumers will be able to choose which game they want to play in a given cabinet and load it instantly, much as they currently do with many SWP units.
