Lower-cost entertainment and amusement technology is proving popular with operators, according to manufacturer Sound Leisure. The firm says it now has fewer than 100 remaining of its 1000 limited-edition Starburst budget jukeboxes. Recent buyers of the £1350 units include Gamestec, whose product manager Stefan Podolanski said: “The Starburst is a fantastic-looking machine and at this price is unbelievable value. We had to take a serious look at this machine and it didn't disappoint.”
Sound Leisure has also won a gold award at the recent Leisure Industry Week event in Birmingham for the Sound Stage Interactive Environment Controller from its children's division SL Kids.
Like the Starburst jukebox, it is presented by Sound Leisure as a budget option. “Given the economic climate our clients are looking for new products and concepts which have high customer appeal and offer value for money,” said SL Kids’ special projects co-ordinator Mike Black.
The controller – which was recognised for “aspiration and innovation” by awards organiser the Play Providers Association – allows operators of attractions such as play structures to add features including sound, lights, smoke and bubbles, triggered by children's movement.
“It’s a modular system that brings interactive sounds, light and any other event into a play area,” said Black. “As the child walks into a specific area they are detected by motion sensors and music starts playing or lights start flashing.”
