Gaming-centre operator Praesepe is developing what it calls a “new high-street concept” offering progressive bingo games across multiple locations.
CEO Nick Harding said: “We are excited by the opportunity within the 2005 Gambling Act to operate video bingo terminals in our venues, and have now converted 30 from licensed AGC [adult gaming centre] venues to what we are describing as ‘micro-bingo clubs’, operating under cash bingo premises licences. This will allow us to offer progressive, parimutuel bingo games across multiple venues.
“This new high-street gaming concept is being developed in conjunction with a small group of gaming operators and we expect the first beta-test sites to launch in December.”
He indicated that the firm was also looking at acquisitions and European expansion to continue its rapid growth. Over the 28 weeks ending 11 July Praesepe recorded revenue of £15.7m, nearly three times the figure achieved in the same period of 2009, and during the half-year it also entered the bingo market with the acquisition of Beacon.
It currently runs 83 AGCs, four family entertainment centres, and six bingo clubs as well as online bingo.
Separately, Praesepe resigned from trade group BACTA at the end of September, now preferring to be represented by Business in Sport and Leisure (BISL). The firm says it may also establish a new forum for operators of AGCs.
