The month of November saw a reduction in the total amount played on online poker, compared with October: Italians bet €245.7m on the virtual tables against €253.9m in the previous month, a reduction of 3.2 percent. It should be remembered, however, that there were fewer days of takings in November than in October. The daily average amount played remained stable in both October and November with a daily average of €8.2m.
The fewer collection days in November had a negative impact on the monthly totals for almost all the gaming operators. The only major operators to record an increase were Lottomatica/Totosì (up 1.5 percent) and PokerStars (up 1.2 percent).
One should note the stability of the data from Betclic and Gbet, but the market leader is still very much Microgame, which in November had takings of €72.5m. In second place is PokerStars with takings of €57.3m, while third place is occupied by Gioco Digitale/Bwin with €36.8m.
Microgame and PokerStars between them in fact captured almost 53 percent of the total amount played on the virtual tables in November. If we add to these the market share of the two operators Gioco Digitale/Bwin and Lottomatica/Totosì, the four providers together have almost 80 percent of the market.
In the first 11 months of 2010, online poker saw takings of more than €2.79bn, as opposed to €2.06bn in 2009. This represents growth of 35.4 percent over the same period in 2009. If this trend continued, the online poker market for the whole of 2010 may have exceeded €3bn, compared to €2.3bn in 2009.
