Songs for charity
Published:  08 March, 2011

The Amusement and Music Operators Association (AMOA) is to promote and co-ordinate a special jukebox fund-raising campaign for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity group committed to funding research to find cures for childhood cancers.

The promotion, called “Jukin’ It Up To Conquer Kids’ Cancer: One Penny at a Time!”, involves music operators who voluntarily allocate one cent of each paid play on their digital jukeboxes to St. Baldrick’s. The AMOA Jukebox Promotion Committee developed the programme with the help of AMI Entertainment Network, Ecast, and TouchTunes Interactive Networks, the industry’s three main digital music providers.

The seven-day campaign, which will run from 13 to 19 March, was timed to allow preliminary sign-ups at the 2011 Amusement Expo in Las Vegas at the beginning of the month. Operators who use any of the three music providers were able to sign up either prior to the convention or at their booths, where they supplied pledge forms.

AMOA executive vice-president Jack Kelleher plans to contact both AMOA members and non-member operators to request their support.

Located in California, St. Baldrick’s is a nonprofit public charity known for its head-shaving events, based on the experience of kids whose cancer treatments cause them to lose their hair. It was founded in 1999 by three New York City Irish American reinsurance executives during a St. Patrick’s Day party. Shaving their own heads, they transformed the party into a benefit for pediatric oncology research.
