China prepares for August expo
Published:  08 March, 2011

The third GTI Asia China Expo will be held 25-27 August at the Poly World Trade Center in Guangzhou.

When the GTI Expo brand made its debut in China in 2009, it broke records for local Chinese gaming events, with high square footage in the exhibition area, exhibitor numbers and visitor attendance. And the 2010 event showed surprising growth.

This year’s GTI Asia China Expo will span more than 20,000 square metres in the exhibition area and house 1000-plus booths. More than 200 exhibitors from five continents will participate in the event.

To provide companies from regions beyond China the opportunity of leveraging GTI Asia China Expo as a platform for entering the expanding Chinese market, an overseas exhibitors’ area is planned.

Meanwhile, official exhibitor registration for GTI Asia Taipei Expo 2011 – due to be held 5-7 May – has begun, and booth locations will be confirmed in mid-March. Many exhibitors are speeding up the pace of new product development in order to debut fresh games at the event.

Japanese firms gather in Chiba

One of the two major exhibitions in Japan’s commercial game industry, the AOU Expo organised by the All Nippon Amusement Machine Operators’ Union (AOU), took place 18-19 February at the Makuhari Messe Convention Center in Chiba.

This year’s exhibition venue was divided into five major areas including general, family, prize, related product and publication/AOU association areas.

A total of 35 Japanese companies participated in the event and displayed products, including Sega, Konami, Bandai Namco, ABC, RS, HOPE, Banpresto, Furyu and Taito. The show was open to trade professionals on the first day and the general public on the second day.

Gaming theme park planned

China is planning to build a gaming theme park called World Joyland in Taihu Bay, Changzhou, Jiangshu province. It is expected to comprise themed areas featuring games such as World of Warcraft and StarCraft in the hopes of creating a Disneyland of digital culture.

According to the official Website of World Joyland, it will integrate fantasy and reality through the development and construction of two interactive platforms, online and offline. Key construction in the first phases includes the World Joyland anime- and game-themed culture park, the International Anime Expo Trade Center and the National E-sports Center.
