The EAG show in London’s Docklands presented very early signs that the UK’s pool industry may be close to turning the corner. The general feel of the show was one of cautious optimism rather than the despair felt at last year’s EAG and the previous ATEI.
Pool businesses took a slightly higher profile, with Heywood Pool exhibiting its current market-leading range of English-style tables. Heywood is still producing more than 80 tables per week and has seen no real ill effects from the slow economy, with its Winner and Prince pool tables continuing to lead the pool market.
Other table manufacturers on show included SAM Leisure/SAM Billiards, WIK from Poland and Valley from the U.S.
Pool spares, accessories and pool cloth were also well-covered by companies including Suzo International, which distributes the Strachan and Milliken cloth brands as well as Aramith pool and snooker balls.
Matt Harris from Suzo’s sales team said: “EAG has been a real success for us this year, with a lot of operators and cue sports fitters reporting real signs of recovery. We now have the complete package of high-quality products which make us a one-stop shop for the UK and European operator. We have seen significant growth with the addition of new lines such as our SAS speakers, and we have also seen a move towards premium-quality products which offer improved value and life, with Milliken and Strachan pool and snooker cloth being one of our biggest growth areas.”
