The Metropolitan Police found 20 unlicensed gaming machines in raids on sports and social clubs in the north London area of Hackney.
Working with other agencies including HM Revenue & Customs and the Gambling Commission, the Met launched the operation after a series of incidents involving firearms near Turkish sports and social clubs in the borough, also citing “heightened concern from Hackney’s Turkish community”.
At the Karadeniz Club on Green Lanes, three unlicensed gaming machines were seized and a closure notice was served on the premises. A further seven machines were seized from the Dilligra Social Club, also on Green Lanes, while ten were found at the Adana Social Club on Stoke Newington High Street.
The Gambling Commission said it was investigating the source of the machines.
Separately, the Commission has warned two licensed bookmakers trading as Oddsit Bookmakers and fined them £7000 for breaching licence conditions.
They had previously, at the beginning of last year, “been formally warned and had additional licence conditions imposed...for breaching licence conditions and failing to comply with social responsibility codes of practice”, the Commission said.
