Euromat, the European federation of amusement and gaming manufacturers, distributors and operators, says its objectives for 2011-12 include working closely with EU institutions as well as its members to ensure “a level playing field across the entire gambling arena”.
That means, for example, fighting for fair regulation and taxation, says Euromat, on behalf of an industry worth nearly €21bn annually and employing some 350,000 people across the EU.
Its remit is to represent manufacturers, distributors and operators of gaming machines outside casinos, and its membership includes 23 national gaming associations. Latest to join are the Croatian association of amusement and music operators (UPZI) and a group of Polish employers in the amusements sector (OZPBR).
At a recent annual general meeting in Sofia, Bulgaria, Euromat members re-elected Annette Kok as president, Helmut Kafka as first vice-president and Roberto Dongiovanni as treasurer.
Said Kok: “In 2007, when I was first elected first vice-president, I pointed out the regulation of gambling, the economics of gambling and the social impact of gambling as the three pillars which we as an organisation needed to face head-on. Four years later, I look back with a considerable degree of satisfaction at what we have achieved.”
But she added: “Economic and regulatory challenges continue to threaten entrepreneurs in the gaming sector and as such we will continue to push for equitable and fair regulation which is evidence-based and ensures a level playing field for all gaming service providers, regardless of the channel through which they distribute their service”.
