Abruzzo regional councillor Maurizio Acerbo has presented a draft bill that seeks to ban video lottery terminals (VLTs) and slot machines in the Abruzzo region. And to think that the VLTs were only introduced into Italy in order to rebuild Abruzzo after the 2009 earthquake there...
“It’s a game of chance for the benefit of a few that is ruining too many people,” said Acerbo, “especially those who already have financial problems and are throwing caution to the wind. In the wake of what has already been achieved by Piedmont, we shall introduce an identical bill.”
The bill put forward by the regional council of Piedmont prohibits the installation and use of slot machines in public places and in groups and associations of any kind, and provides for the imposition of fines ranging from €1000 to €6000 on those who distribute, install and permit their use.
